Since 2001 artist, entrepreneur and fashion insider, Darren Greenblatt, has been paying homage to the enigmatic and magical world of fashion through illustration and typography, under the moniker The Ugly Lives of Beautiful People.
Darren's fashion work focused on illustration, women's clothing, jewelry and accessories. Darren has written two books published by Random House and Simon and Schuster, and sold two TV show pilots for Fox and NBC/Sony. Darren has been featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Allure, Marie Claire and Women’s Wear Daily and his designs have been sold at Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Kirna Zabete and Jeffrey New York. Darren has appeared on The Apprentice, The Today Show, The View, Rachael Ray and CNN.
Recent works: mixed media art, combining heavy French acrylics, Hermes and Gucci wallpapers and vintage magazines, the critically acclaimed designer and producer has created works that evokes his love/ hate relationship with the industry, bringing to the canvas a visual dialogue that confronts fashion’s waste and pretension with its artistry, beauty, and relevance. The result is a collection bursting with color, nostalgia, and contradiction. “As a fashion ‘refugee’ with distance from the industry, and from the craft that has been a driving force since I was a child, I’m able to explore and see things with new eyes,”
Darren creates his art from his home studio in Princeton, New Jersey. “My recent work homages the enigmatic and magical world of fashion- past, present and future and how it works within different spaces and mediums.”
